CATCH PHASE

Detailed Description

The “Catch Phase” of the ski stroke is one of the most important phases as it provides the initial acceleration which is needed to both punch  through the waves and generate speed, especially in choppy or rough water

DRIVE PHASE

Detailed Description

The Drive Phase, along with the catch is where the ski paddler is able to generate the required force and speed needed to successfully negotiate oncoming waves or to make it out before the waves start to break.

RELEASE PHASE

Detailed Description

The “Release” part of the ski paddling stroke is the area that provides the ski with enough continuous drive whilst the paddles are in the air  between strokes.

RECOVERY PHASE

Detailed Description

The “Recovery” is the part of the stroke which can be most utilised by the paddler to conserve energy. It is also fundamentally important in the set up of the opposite side of the stroke in the next catch phase.

THE SKI START

Detailed Description

The ski start may be considered to be the most important part of the race. If the paddler has a poor start, it may put them into a bad  position within the pack of fellow racers where they may not be able to recover  from.
